Finally. Something my Grandma used to say that I can totally agree with 100% of the time. There truly is a sucker born every minute. The gullibility of the general population never ceases to amaze. Today I saw an infomercial to end all infomercials. Winter got you down? Feeling the effects of the February blahs? Ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you to the yumalite. The apparatus looks similar to the eye-glasses type thingie that Jordy wore on Star Trek: The Next Generation ……
……except it fits up on the forehead rather than over the eyes. So the contraption is similar to a visor you would wear when playing golf. On the underside of the visor are lights that can be turned on and off. The lights shine happiness on to your face. Come on. Really? Yes. Really. Even better, the yumalite can be worn anytime, anywhere. What they neglect to mention is that you are going to look like you have lost your f^&*ing mind when you’re wearing it. If you invest in a yumalite, I have a feeling depression will be the least of your worries. Watch the clip. http://youtu.be/7NT5tZClmR8 In the words of my son “facepalm”. I rest my case.
It actually works – much like other SAD light machines. Why slag something that is proven to work, and is just made more convenient in a visor?
I don’t believe the writer states whether it works or not – although there does seem to be some skepticism (& really… how could there not be) but rather comments on how one might look when wearing one. And after watching the video – I have to agree. But if it works for you – great (I just wouldn’t wear it in public). : )
Haha! Hilarious. I love that such a silly topic offended someone. Sounds like a load of bull to me. Even if this does happen to work (which I doubt), how about going outside instead?
Wow Lisa! What a novel idea! hahaha! I couldn’t believe it offended someone either!
3 decades of peer reviewed research does demonstrate that light therapy improves mood. Visit the Pub Med website and review the literature.
However, this particular device wouldn’t work that well. The angle of gaze is from above, which means little light hits the photoreceptors in the eye. So the idea is correct and based on solid science, but the design is poor.
Having been very closely related to someone who suffered depression I am actually well aware of the therapies out there. This post was meant to simply share some light-hearted fun as I feel that depression is a very complicated disease and I find it unusual that anyone would think a simple visor shining light on your face would lift depression – especially at a fairly hefty cost. Hence my conclusion (and title of the post) there really is a sucker born every minute. Thanks though Bill for dropping by my blog and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.
